YOUR DAILY DIVE: The Confusion Solution

SCRIPTURE:

Luke 24:13-35

STORY:

Have you ever noticed how quick we are to give up on God and go back to our old way of living when things don't turn out like we hoped or planned? That's what is happening in the last chapter of the Gospel of Luke when we meet two men walking down the road to Emmaus. They were headed home... confused, defeated and seemingly lost by the events they had just witnessed in Jerusalem. What in the world just happened?! How could they have gotten things so wrong? They believed that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah. His miracles and teaching were clear evidence to them that He was who He claimed to be—THE SON OF GOD. But when He did something they didn't expect—WHEN HE DIED!—they lost all hope, tucked their tails between their legs and headed back to the old life. What does Jesus do? He comes alongside to encourage them and show them how everything was going according to the plan... not their plan but HIS PLAN (Luke 24:13-35).

And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! "Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?" Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

APPLICATION for today's Christ-follower:

When Jesus returned to Heaven, He didn't abandon His followers. He sent the Holy Spirit to help us make sense of His will and purpose in a world that rejects Him. When things don't make sense, that's not the time to give up on Him. That's the time to press into Him through prayer and His Word. Without a doubt, He has something to teach us that we don't want to miss! Is your mind open to learning and your heart open to obeying God?.. the God who operates according to His will and glory, not yours.

DAILY PRAYER:

Father, thank You for wanting to be in a deep, personal, life-altering relationship with me... so much so that You sent Your Son to die for me. I recognize that You also sent Him to teach me how to live and grow as an obedient child of God in a world that has rejected You. Lord, some days are really really hard. When life doesn't go according to my plan, I am so easily discouraged. Forgive me. And by Your Spirit, teach me Your ways that I may boldly and confidently walk in Your Truth. Give me an undivided heart that seeks Your will. And grant me the courage to live the life You have called me to live... for Your glory, not mine. In Jesus' mighty and matchless name I pray. Amen.
