YOUR DAILY DIVE: WORD of God

SCRIPTURE:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being… And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-14, NASB)

STORY:
What is a “word?” It is a unit of language. A form of communication. Before Jesus walked the earth, God revealed Himself to His people through the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). The Hebrew Scriptures were “the Word” of God, connecting earth-bound believers to the God they could not see. In the Gospel of John, Jesus is identified as the “Word” of God wrapped in flesh. When Jesus was on earth walking and talking with people, He revealed God’s Character and Truth through His very presence. Today, though Jesus no longer walks among us in the flesh, the “Word” of God remains in what we call the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, the Word of God is living and active, inviting you into a deep and abiding relationship with your Creator.

APPLICATION for today's Christ-follower:
How do you view the Bible? Some see it as a big, intimidating, cosmic instruction manual. Others look at it as simply an interesting but irrelevant story book. Still others consider it to be some sort of magic coffee table book that is never opened but brings good luck. The TRUTH is, the Bible is the "word" of God. Think about that... the Bible is God's personal communication about who He is. Jesus came to earth as God's "Word" wrapped in flesh. He walked and talked with people, communicating God's Character and Truth. When Jesus returned to Heaven, God's "word" remained. Do you want to know God? Do you want to experience the presence of the Lord? OPEN HIS WORD.

PRAYER:
Father, thank You that just as the first disciples learned about You by walking and talking with Your Son, I too can be in relationship with Him through Your Word because He IS the Word. As I open the Scriptures, help me see and hear Jesus as clearly with my spiritual senses as the disciples did with their physical eyes and ears. In the name of my Savior I pray. Amen.
